Five years ago I was one very overwhelmed autism mom. I didn’t have a diagnosis yet, but that didn’t matter. Asperger’s syndrome. Sensory Processing Disorder. PDD-NOS. Meltdowns. Allergies. All of these things loomed large and intimidating. As is my nature, I researched. I did a lot of reading. However, what helped me most was one friend. Continue reading

Life can be overwhelming for children with Aspergers syndrome.
As a special needs parent, I’m willing to bet you’d love to make life easier for your child. You watch his struggles and wonder how you can help. Since Dr. J just turned eight, I’ve been contemplating how far he has come in the last five years. By no means do I know everything, but these ten things have helped my son navigate life’s choppy waters, and they can help your child, too. Most of these will help other special needs children as well.

The Power of One Break
Survive special needs life by taking breaks
Parenting is busy and tiring. Special needs parenting wears one out even faster. Many special needs parents handle the bulk of the day-to-day life while the other spouse is at work. Days upon days of meltdowns and therapy drag a body down. Trying to think ahead all of the time to prevent problems wears on you. More than likely, you’ve hit a breaking point before. You lose your temper, say something you regret, or just break down crying in front of your kids.

The Next Step in the Family Hope Center Program
This post contains an affiliate link to Well Planned Day planners. I am not an affiliate for the Family Hope Center. I received a scholarship to their seminar so I could review their program(s) on behalf of special needs parents. All opinions expressed are my own.
My week of rest is over after The Family Hope Center special needs seminar. For two weeks I have been gearing up to get more serious about Dr. J’s program. I’ll be using a lot of the power of one and mind control. I’ve been feeling overwhelmed because life has been crazy lately and our apartment is so small. I look around our little apartment and wonder how I can do it. But I have been set up for success. Continue reading
My Other Life before Autism
Sometimes I remember my life before autism. It happened to me the other day. I was treating myself to some music on Pandora, and a song came on that I knew I should know but couldn’t remember the title. And that, my friends, is how this blog post began. Continue reading
Special Needs Parents: You Make a Difference for Others!
Many times special needs parents and caregivers plug along, feeling as if they don’t make a difference anywhere. Perhaps they know they make a difference to that one person in their life who needs a bit of extra care, but they often feel swallowed up by the daily grind. Life seems to pass by.
I’ve been there.
Recently God took time to let me know I do make a difference, and I have a message for you. You do, too. How do I know? When you read these three stories, you’ll know. Continue reading
My Autism Puzzle Piece
This post is a hard one to write. It may not be very popular. But, just like I felt I should write about how weary I was two years ago, I think I should write this because I’m probably not the only one who feels this way. I do not intend to offend anyone, just share a glimpse into my world.
A puzzle piece is the autism symbol. It’s meant to represent the conundrum that is autism.
I have my own autism puzzle piece, and it’s not my son.
