Vaccine Injury Awareness Month–John’s Story

If you’ve been around Many Hats Mommy for a while, you know I pretty much stay away from political stuff. I just don’t have the energy to deal with figuring it all out and the snarky comments that could come my way. Fibromyalgia, autism, parenting, and life in general occupy my time.

Dr. J was never vaccinated, so that is not the cause of his autism. However, I cannot discount those who have watched their children disappear after a series of shots. Therefore, I’d like to honor those families. Here is one story. John is the son of my dear friend Cheryl. He is now 19, and Cheryl has been a true warrior mom to get her son where he is today. I’m sure she had many moments over the last 17 years when she felt like giving up.

Got Cable? Watch This!

Autism spectrum disorders are now getting more attention in the entertainment industry, both in book form and in media form. This is probably because autism now affects 1 in 100 children, and 1 in 70 boys. I had the chance to preview a made-for-TV movie that will be on cable this coming Sunday night, September 25th. A Mile in His Shoes highlights Aspergers syndrome and its impact on the individual and those around him.

A Mile in His Shoes is family-friendly entertainment from GMC TV based on a novel by Frank Nappi. I looked up Nappi’s novel, and I’m glad GMC decided to take out a few elements so the movie would be more appropriate for families. There are some parts that would bother my children because they’re young, such as bullying, but I am comfortable letting them watch the rest. A Mile in His Shoes offers many opportunities to discuss with preteens and teenagers things such as bullying, entertainment choices, how to treat others, and special needs. Continue reading →

Sessdif J

Saturday morning I heard crying. I thought Dr. J had gotten in trouble. I came out, and huge tears were rolling down his face because he couldn’t get staples through the book he had just made. Thankfully Daddy saved the day and managed to staple the book! Today I’m going to share the pages and see if you can guess what they say. Lucky or Not?

Today Erika shares her sons’ Growing up with Autism story. Erika is a very sweet lady that goes to great lengths to encourage those special needs moms who are coming behind her.
