One more post in the spirit of Thanksgiving. I’m looking for stories of every day angels. Folks that you may never see again or see every day that have helped you, encouraged you, or simply smiled when you were having a rough day.
Again, I’ll start…
Since I mentioned Special Needs Story time Monday, I immediately think of the head librarian at our local library. She is so wonderful with Dr. J. She patiently listens to him when he has something to tell her. She doesn’t get flustered if he goes behind the counter (or even in The Office!). She also doesn’t get flustered when Dr. J gets impatient in the checkout line. She welcomes our story time with open arms and kind smiles.
I’ve watched her with other patrons, and she gives them the same smile. She listens to them with the same attention. She gives them her time.
This also reminds me of a local banker. She does for her customers what Miss J does for her patrons. This teller welcomes people to the bank. She helps those who are confused by forms. She connects with my spectrum son. She sends lollipops home for my boys if they aren’t with me. She gives her time, too.
Your turn! Leave a comment about an every day angel and keep the gratitude flowing. Happy Thanksgiving!

Most recently, I’m thankful for a librarian as well. My guy ripped a page out of a book – so that said page was unreadable. When I discovered this, I was angry, but also trying to figure out what he’d been thinking. We discussed all the possible ramifications, and I let him know that HE would have to handle this with the librarian. When we went to the library, I let the librarian know that we were dealing with some special needs and she seemed very ok with that. Then I said that he needed to discuss something with her. He timidly discussed his issue, and she didn’t seem at all bothered by it. She calmly and rationally discussed it with him and how accidents can happen but we must take good care of things we borrow. She said we’d need to pay for the book, which we knew, but she knocked off the additional $5 processing fee as she watched him diligently count out ALL his quarter and dollars to pay for a new book ($16). When we left, I told him that he should remember the librarian’s kindness when he has an opportunity to choose between kindness or anger. His reply: “I won’t be forgetting this day!” And through tears, I replied, “And neither will I!”
