Make It Simple–Customized Hit List

Remember Super Shelley? Everyone needs her. Unless you’re already amazingly put together in  your life. Then don’t let me know. ha ha

Super Shelley is a Certified Family Manager Coach, and she’s super sweet, super friendly, super encouraging, just, well, super! She has been so patient with this unorganized procrastinator of a girl! I have lived most of my life by the seat of my pants because I could, and most of the time I had decent to great results. Then I became a mom of an autistic son.

So, Super Shelley has been trying to help me get my life together. I confess I’ve never been good at a daily to-do list. I do okay with a monthly planner, but a daily list? Forget it. The few times I’ve tried, I feel pretty good about it. For a few days. Then something happens to make me get out of the pattern (often a family-member illness or back setback) and it goes out the window.

Well, Super Shelley and the Family Manager team don’t believe in to-do lists. They use hit lists. They compartmentalize your life into 7 areas and make you write your list into areas. That way you can focus on your priorities first. You can also look at things and realize, “Ok, yes we have a birthday in two weeks, and I do need to buy paper goods, but if I don’t have dinner for tonight, that will be more of a problem today. I can get paper goods later.”

Since my dear Dr. J decided to stuff a pen down our printer almost a year ago now, I was not able to print out the free (register first) family manager daily hit list. I just made my own on lined paper. Then, you guessed it, sickness hit!

The momentum went way back downhill. Life threw more than curve balls my way. It was not pretty. But I still “just keep swimming.” (Thanks, Dory!) Which brings me to my sample you see here.

I asked Greg for some help, since I have no idea how to create boxes in documents, and I used the six areas (#7 is time management, which IS your hit list) from the Family Manager system. I am to the point where I need to tell myself every day, “Self, TAKE YOUR VITAMINS! DRINK YOUR WATER!” etc. Therefore, I made my own hit list with things I know I want every day, so I don’t have to write it every day!

Then I downloaded it onto a thumb drive and went to Office Max. I had them print out 30 copies on lavender paper. (Easier to find in a stack of papers, if there were such a thing here. Shhh! Don’t tell Super Shelley!) I figure I’ll use this for a month and then if I want to add things or delete things, I can!

I sent it to Super Shelley, and she told me I needed to let you, my readers, peek at it. And I laughed inside my head. Then I thought, “Well, this kind of fits our theme for May, ‘Make It Simple.’ Okay. I’ll see what I can do.”

And now you can see it. My version is actually a full 8×10, so the boxes are bigger and there’s more space to write in. If you want to know more about the Family Manager system, you need to go here to Shelley’s Facebook page or here to her blog. If you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comment area!

  1. I clicked on this because I NEED major help with getting my life/house organized. Sounds like we have similar busy lives. Well, It was funny and weird to see you start this post talking about “Super Shelley” because well, my name is also Shelley and my screen name, Twitter name, etc is Super_Shellbell. LOL! Funny! I am going to go check out the Other …more organized Shelley. : D

    • Well, Super_Shellbell, thanks for stopping by! That is pretty funny. The other, ahem, organized Shelley is awesome because she helps you focus on what YOU want to accomplish, not what everyone else is screaming at you to do! AND she’s also encouraging along the way. During our first consultation call I expected to be in tears because my life was such a mess, and I came away confident that I could do this because she told me things I was already doing right! I highly recommend her!

  2. Shelley says:

Jenny! You have INSPIRED me! I am so excited and am going to share it in a special way soon. drum roll……

  3. It does look super simple. It is often hard to juggle all the tasks, isn’t it?

  4. Thanks for linking up – this looks good!

  5. Theresa says:

Thanks for linking up! I schedule my blog posts too! Or at least, I write in my ideas for posts for when I have time to write them… :)

  6. What a simple tool you have here. I schedule my blog posts too, sometimes I have been known to have a weeks worth of posts ready to go. It just depends on how my thoughts flow during the time I use to blog. Now if I could just get ahead on my blog reading and commenting, if that is even achievable.

    • You know, Debbie, I’m still trying to figure out how to add good blog-following into my schedule! I know a lot of good bloggers read 100 blogs a day! No way I can do that, at least in this season of life. Thanks for stopping by!

  7. Jessica says:

This is a great post. I love that you shared exactly how you make it work for you. Thank you.
